CERIAS has been awarded a National Security Agency grant to establish a Center for the Development of Faculty in Information Assurance.

CERIAS has been awarded a National Security Agency grant to establish a Center for the Development of Faculty in Information Assurance.  The center will leverage many activities currently underway at CERIAS including the multi-disciplinary Information Assurance and Security graduate program at Purdue University, the Continuing Education Outreach Program funded by the Lilly Foundation, the K-12 Outreach Program funded by the Lilly Foundation, and a Faculty Development Project funded by the National Science Foundation.

The project will improve the capability of computer science and security faculty through four integrated initiatives that span the continuum of information security education:

  1. faculty training and credentialing in IA,
  2. IA curriculum development, including laboratory exercises, case studies, problems, etc.,
  3. IA outreach to K-12 to raise awareness and understanding of the field among educators and students who will become the college students of tomorrow, and
  4. a repository of exemplary instructional laboratories, case studies, and problems for use by faculty and K-12 educators nationwide.

To build this repository, we will utilize proven curriculum/instructional development models and engage educators nationwide to

  1. develop new and exchange existing instructional materials,
  2. organize a peer review and site testing process,
  3. evaluate the effectiveness of the materials for promoting learning, and
  4. facilitate widespread dissemination and use of the materials.

A concerted effort will be made to extend existing and build new relationships with faculty of historically under-represented universities and teachers in under-represented school districts through an awareness campaign that will increase the level of participation of these educators in IA education.
