ASIS Chapter Information

Website: http://www.asisonline.org/

Investigated by Keith Watson

ASIS International is an organization of security professionals. There are 36k members and 204 chapters worldwide. The organization is primarily focused on increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals and materials that address broad security interests. ASIS has three certifications in security management, investigations, and physical security: Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), and Physical Security Professional (PSP).

In the surrounding area, there are five in Michigan, two in Wisconsin, four chapters in Illinois, Kentucky has one, and Ohio has four. There are four chapters in Indiana including one that includes another state. The two closest are Illi-Ana, primarily focused in northwest Indiana and Illinois, and Indianapolis. There are also chapters in Evansville and Fort Wayne. It is difficult to determine the activities of the Indiana chapters as there are no websites for most of the chapters.

Issues

  1. It appears that the Indianapolis chapter covers the greater Lafayette area. The chapter rules require some negotiation with the new chapter and any existing chapters that cover the area to work out "territory" issues.

  2. A new chapter requires at least 15 members of ASIS in good standing.

Recommendations

  1. I am positive that we do not have 15 members of ASIS which are required to even be considered in the formation of a new chapter. I think we should pass on ASIS.
